Blessings Upon Blessings

Today we had a women's clothing exchange day at church.

Such excitement as the women 'oohed' and 'aahed' at the variety of clothing.

One woman said to me, "Sister, look! I got two bracelets. I've never had anything like this before."

So many times, we overlook the people closest to us. We forget to see their needs and forget to look for them, too.

You know, it's not really 'all about me'. It's 'all about them' and what you can do to help life be a little kinder to those less fortunate.

We tend to forget how rich we are compared to some.

Most of the time, people don't let you see their need. It's not that we are suppose to be able to 'read their minds' but to be more aware of them.

It's wonderful to pray for someone but if you can, supply an unspoken need.

The blessing is two-fold. Your generosity blesses them. Supplying their need swells your heart and makes everything a little brighter for yourself.

Go ahead. 'Make their day.'

One thing that our church does every year is hold a clothing drive each fall. Clothing is collected throughout the year and then it is sorted into mens, womens, childrens items and probably by size. This isn't for the members of the church though (unless they need it). It is more of an outreach program. It is advertised in the local news paper and anyone in need of clothing is invited to come down.

Lots and lots of people attend this, though there are those who also go who probably don't need the clothes (like they bring their kids along and the kids have on $150 pair of sneakers). However, I don't think anything is said to them. It starts early in the morning and goes until mid afternoon or supper time I think and there are always huge lineups before the doors open.

This is just one way our church has decided we can reach out to the community and provide those who might not be able to afford new clothes the opportunity to get some (the clothes are second hand but in great condition).

Hi. Shelley! We do the same thing in the fall and fill our parking lot full of clothing and free hot dogs for the community. Everything goes. The neighborhood takes it all. We are very blessed in this outreach as you are. Today was a time just to reach those in need within our body and to fellowship in a friendly and loving way. As in the book of ACTS, the disciples shared with each other as each had need, too. This is our new program - A.C.T.S or All Called To Share. Giving out of our own supply so that the body has all it needs to give to the outside.
