Wedding Blues

Did you realize that August is the new bridal month? It use to be June, years ago, but this month has captured the new brides as 'the' month to be married in.

Do you know why? It's because of the new generation of brides. Most girls wait until they finish college these days. And yes, it's a good idea to wait till marriage to have the kids, too. Anyway, August is good because if you have a teaching degree and get hired, school starts in September. The final vacation before work begins.

When I grew up (now I'm telling my age) normally we graduated, got married, had kids, jobs and then a new house when you could afford it.

Now, graduation or kids, then job, house and career in somewhat of that order. It's like the food pyramid, now it's upside down that's right! What is this world coming to?

Do you have thoughts on this dilemna? What do you seriously think?

As a mature student (36), I see a lot of the younger "kids" in my university getting married right after getting their degrees. Some will even get married while still in school and keep attending. I could never understand that, and still don't. They are in such a hurry to get married.

Blogs have been known to comment on a variety of issues, ranging from the latest "Here is what I think" type of blog to the latest big movie release to the newest computer on the market. Your blog is very topic specific and should do very well. Keep up the good work.

Also, you might want to look at two very important, topic-specific blogs for some ideas. MediaNews (www.poynter.org/medianews) and (www.iwantmedia.com). First started in 1999 as independent sites. Romenesko's site is particularly interesting for being a must read for media insiders, often creating a hot debate throughout the journalism community, because of its unique combining of news and rumors.

I was 25 when I got married, in May. No kids yet. Well now I have two, but then I didn't have any.

I have found that is not the norm anymore. Most of the people my age (mid-30s) have children who are in high school at least. The parent's of my girl's friends are quite a bit younger than I am, by about 15 years or so.

The order I did it in was university, job, marriage (well late in life), house and never did the kids bit.

That wasn't the way I planned it, but I am happy with the way things turned out except perhaps for the no kids bit. It was not that we had left it too late, but the science bit didn't work - some of the essential bits were not present!

Hi, Deb, I found you over at Faith Writers and thought I'd say hello to a fellow blogger.

My daughter just got married 2 months ago; you'll see a few posts about the whole wedding / marriage if you look in May and June archives of my blog. What a trip that was!

College and part time job, husband and apartment, then 2 bedroom house, 2 kids, 3 bR house, 3rd kid, 4 BR house, 4th kid. I never wanted a career. I don't know where I'd find time for it. Plus I can't imagine loving anything more than what I do.

Holy cow! Since when did spammers decide to hit the blogs?

Deb, I'm almost 28 and I have had the fortune of having parents who taught me that waiting is a good thing. I have a lot of friends getting married lately, and though I sometimes wish it was me, I'm glad that I have had that chance to know myself as myself, rather than as half of a whole. I think I'll be able to bring a lot more into marriage now than I could have after high school or college.
