Of course, I licked the lamp when I got it. I had to see if it was really salt and it's very salty.
It is made of Himalayan salt and very heavy. I wouldn't want to drop it on my toe.
Salt lamps are said to be a natural humidifier and good for your lungs. I like the soft amber glow that is adjustable by the inline dimmer switch on the cord. You can have it as soft or bright as you desire.
The salt sits on a natural wood base that is impervious to termites and you can use the light indoors or out of doors. You must insert the enclosed light bulb into the socket at the end of the electric cord, into the lamp. The bulb produces the soft light through the pink salt and emits enough heat to activate the cleansing properties of the salt minerals.
If you leave your lamp on 24/7, you need to periodically clean it with a soft cloth to remove any particles that have been attracted to the salt.
I don't know if they really work or not but they are very nice to look at and decorate the room with a lovely glow in the evening.
